Bubbleless skimmer? (See Pic)

Just did the first wet test... with some dry fit plumbing, so really a wet/dry fit test. Anyway, fired up the Coralife 125 and got this for bubble output, not very impressive:



I did notice that when I raised the water level the bubbles got a little better, but not much more than the above pic. When the water level got low in the skimmer section (maybe 1/2 inch dif) as I was playing around bubble production stopped entirely...

Is something wrong or does cold, fresh water not work in a skimmer?

Freshwater definitely does not work. Except for a leak test. You'll have to try it on your tank.

Fresh water has a different surface tension... it makes smaller bubbles impossible. That's why salt water feels kind of slimey even when it's pure.
