Hitchiker question
I have had my tank up and running since August 29 and just taking things slow--I have a 24 nano cube with a 3-4 inch DSB and 31# Figi live rock, purchase from my LFS--I havne't seen any hitchikers to this point, but have seen all kinds of "excretions" on the DSB--I read somewhere to put in a little bit of food, minced shrimp on the LR and wait until the lights go out for the evening and you will see all kinds of stuff--Is this true and does it work? I'm curious as to what kinds of stuff I have present--thanks for your help, you guys have been great so far--

I have only found a few hitchhikers on my LR. Or so I thought until I got out the flash light at night after the lights had been out for several hours. I then seen all the little critters you dont see in the day time. All kinds of tiny bugs (pods), and a lot of worms, I think they are peanut worms. I did also find after several days a little colony of feather dusters, and 4 other different feather dusters that are white, pink and red. Also got some aiptasia anemone too, but got rid of them ASAP. Some of the rock has nothing on it at all, just some moss and a little coraline.
I tink that by the time the lfs. gets the rock, cures it, that most of the other hitchhikers are gone.

Sometimes after the lights go out is where you see all the amazing critters that you don't even realize you have. If you are going to try to bait them out, I'd wait till the lights go out and drop a pellet or two in.

Use red lighting to view stuff at night. Very few organisms from our tanks can see red light.
