Looking forward to going next year, it will be my first MACNA. I mentioned flying down (by myself) to my husband, and he shocked me by looking up online driving directions. Looks like he might come with me, and turn it into a road trip! It's our tenth anniversary next year, a few months before the conference. I was thinking that rather than asking for a piece of jewellery or something, I might just wait until the conference and see if we can find a good deal on a MH/T5 fixture for the 65g as my gift instead

Neotekz and ACBlinky

I just came back from my first MACNA and there were only 4 Canadians I could find - 2 of them being one of the session speakers and his wife from Montreal and the 2 Proline Aquatic guys from Vancouver.

It would be nice to see many more Canadians attend and with it just being 5 hours away from Toronto, this would probably be the closest MACNA to Ontario in the near future.

If you wanted to get my perspective from this year's MACNA from a Canadian hobbyist, you can check out my thread on AquariumPros.ca with pictures and video - just do a search on MACNA. I also posted the link somewhere here on ReefCentral under a thread with MACNA Pics.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there next year.
I'm registering before the end of the month.

Ron

AquariumObsessed had some nice lighting products, the guys were very easy to talk to also, and had most all the answers to product questions

Anyone know if they have an age limit on tickets, like kids 4 and under free or something. I am taking my wife, daughter and step daughter. My step-daughter is 20 and most likely will not do any of the conference, but my daughter is 4 and would most likely be with me during all the events, so would I need to get her the same $75 Full Registration package as my wife and I get

Pretty much what we're planning on doing too. Turning it into a road trip. It's actually going to be our honeymoon trip ( a year later) but we're planning on going to Canton,OH, Gettysburg, Hershey, then Philly for a few days, Atlantic City, NYC for a day and spend the last 3 days at MACNA on the way home. It'll be my first MACNA too. Will be looking forward to it all year. Can't wait.

You won't be sorry - this year was my first MACNA as it was in my hometown and it was pure reefer heaven. I was actually sad when it was over -- 3 days is not enough! Last night I suggested a little trip to Pittsburg to my hubby - not much luck, but it's early yet

There were lots of good deals on the last day - vendors didn't want to have to pack any more than necessary for the trip home. I got a Vortech for $300 (That's only $45 + shipping off, but they are hot items) Lots of freebies too - I have Oceanic, Reef Nutrition & more T-shirts . I got a free 55g bucket of Red Sea salt that they were giving out after the "won" in the salt study results.
I won a cool fish from ORA. Precision Marine put 55 protein skimmers in the raffle!! I forgot to enter that one though. Most people won something.

Someone was giving free frags - nice ones. There were plenty to go around.

Getting to see the products you only normally read about is invaluable.

Obviously there are the lectures - those were w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l !!! I learned so very much in those three days. if you go to fragging workshops, btw, get there early for a good seat - it's hard to see much more than 3 or so rows back!

Anyway I hope to see you in 2007!

I made my hotel reservations already, I wanted to be sure to get a room
I loved Houston, I want to go to every MACNA from now on, Houston was my 1st, and I am hooked.
Anyone that is putting it off, just go! You can say its too expensive, but by the airfare then later the hotel, stash some cash whatever you have to do. I think with the knowledge you'll gain, the freebies (you can score quite a lot!) And the money you'll save on things by talking to reps and learning better ways to do stuff you'll be money ahead afterwards.
Chris

Maybe even more people would sign up faster if you guarantee a tour of your new facility -lol

Steven Pro has a new greenhouse in his backyard with ten thousand 800g tanks. The numbers are correct this time right?

I'm confidant there will be a strong group of Canadians making this trip since it's only about 3-5 hours away from the border and Toronto, Canada. There will be car pools going on and possibly a charter bus if the price works for enough people.

I already registered for the conference also, but I took a step back from the hotel. I began making a reservation but then noticed that I will already be charged for 1 day's stay to hold the reservation within a week or two. Can you confirm if this is what's happening with your reservation as well?

I haven't heard back from an inquiry I sent on the MACNA website related to the hotel.

Thanks - Ron

We checked with the hotel. If you reserve your room with a credit card, you will not be charged until when you check in.

You are welcome. The wording on their website is awkward and misleading.
