Redoing my CL.. SCWD or not...

I needed to clean my mag 9.5 for the CL that had a SCWD already on it and decided to plumb it 'right'. I originally had 3/4" PVC plumbed to a SCWD via hose and barbs. The pump was on the ground.

The pump will now be at a height near the top of the tank. I am now using larger diameter 1-1/4" pipe on the output side of the pump. (Mags supposedly get better flow with larger diamter pipe)

Would I get better flow with a Tee that reduces from the 1-1/4 to two 3/4" outputs or through a SCWD??

I just am not fond of redcusing to first get it to the input of the SCWD and the barb to hose to SCWD connection - I had algae in there that reduced the hose diamter by about 1/8 inch.

Your thoughts?

1.25" Vs 3/4" makes a huge difference on a Mag9, but with a SCWD, I doubt it will help all that much.

I'm just waiting for my SQWD to quit on me someday so that I can upgrade to an oceansmotions super squirt compact. Take a look at the tank of the month and you'll see what I'm talking about.

well, this is just an update.. I went ahead and tried out without the SCWD and wow - huge difference that with it on.. there must be a ton of headloss due to the SCWD and the fittings to transition to the SCWD. I'm estimating I'm now getting 2-3 times more flow out of two outlets w/o SCWD versus a single oulet with SCWD...

Thanks lakee911 for the link. I've read throuh the thread when it came out... I may do the mod to see how it turns out and compare it...
