Question Glass shield for Tek Light

Anyone using glass as a splash shield on their Tek Light? If so, how's it working out as far as heat within the fixture, not the tank? I've heard heat takes away from the effectiveness of the lights (don't ask me how, I think I read it on one of the Grim Reefer's posts somewhere). My 6 bulb 36" Tek is currently fully extended on the Tek Legs, about 8" I imagine, above my 24" deep 65. I removed my Home Depot acrylic because it kept bowing so bad. I want to lower my fixture to it's lowest point to keep more stuff on my SSB, but I don't want salt spray to mess up my reflectors. Any thoughts, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time,

Not yet, but I'm working on it. I'm trying to locate a glass company that can get Starphire or something similar. Most likely, I will have the glass tempered if I go this route.

Bump. Just trying to get some thoughts. I called a local glass shop and they recommended a Pyrex brand glass that is heat resistant. However, I think something like that would probably block to much of the light output into the aquarium. I'm thinking of going tempered and see if a large fan blowing on the fixture, and maybe two small computer fans laying on top, will keep everything cool enought. Any thoughts?

I called a glass place today and they told me that each sheet (Starphire) would be $96 each. Little more than I am willing to shell out!!
