its a Ilyanassa Obsoleta which is a nassarious snail. i bought 100 and they lasted a pretty long time. i never put attention on what they ate but my tank was pretty clean. they are a sand/glass cleaner i never seen them on the rocks.

Thanks. I was pretty sure they were a Nassarious sp. but jsut wanted to make sure. I think they will compliment my trochus snails nicely.

Just a FYI, I believe the Ilyanssa Obsoleta are more a coldwater species and alot of people don't have luck with them in our home aquariums that are usually around 80F. I bought some, and they lasted only a few months until I lost them all.

yep. i have some in mine that were given to me. they were locally caught. i received about 40-50 snails. some of them where near death by the time i got them to the tank. i probably had 30 survivors. i now only see 10-15 at any given time. but my hermits are all sporting new shells . these are related to Nassarius but are not a true Nassarius snail.

Nass. snails are scavengers, they'll eat detritus, left over food, etc.

Yeah those ones, if they are I. obsoleta, aren't really nassarius. As far as I know they are coldwater.
