skimmer ?
why is it important to mod a protein skimmer with a gate valve vs a ball valve? I have a new H&S skimmer and was wanting to add this to my system.
Thanks |

You would mod it to get better control of the output- you won't need to mod the H&S. The wedge pipe gives excellent control.

It is only important to mod a protein skimmer that does not have control on the output and if you needed it because the water level within your skimmer is too low.
With H&S, they use a built-in wedge pipe design and all you need to do is twist on the exhaust pipe and it works similar to a gate valve as fine tuning is just turning the wedge pipe ever so slightly. |

Controlling output on a skimmer is VERY IMPORTANT, if skimmer waterlevel is too low, you may not get any skimming at all, like being skimmerless.
If you're waiting on an H&S skimmer, then no worries and there is already a unique design for controlling the output. |

it's all about the water flow and level. gates are much better at controlling (and cleaning) than the ball valves. 2 cents.
