Do you have it full open or turned with most of the ports mostly closed?

I didn't have a problem with fish, but I did have that problem with starfish. Three were damaged in that way, one fatally. I had to replace the rectangular cover for it and then the problem never occurred again.

Interesting I just added 2 1100's to my 55 so I'll definitly have to keep an eye out on the fishies & organisms when I add more to the tank.

I currently have a damsel I wish would get sucked He's the reason there's not a lot in the tank. I think he's getting ready to be delivered back to nature "The Gulf of Mexico"

The reason I asked about having it full open or not is that I used to have to run mine with the side ports dialed closed because the current was too much for my sandbed. With a little time settling the sand and magnet mounts helping with getting the pumps in better position, I am able to open them up full now. Anyway, when they were closed, the only port for the pump to draw in water to push out was a slightly larger one on top of the round part of the pump. My scopas got nosey one evening and stuck his nose in there and couldn't get out. Fortunately, my stepson spotted this going on and the fish was saved and lived to tell about it. I lost several snails due to this alignment of the pump as well. Once you open all the ports, though, the pump is pulling from multiple places so if you block one port off like with a snail, the suction isn't so hard because the pump can pull from the other ports instead. This way, snails can traverse across the openings without being sucked to death. If your fish is being pulled in with all the ports open, then there's something wrong with the fish. None of my fish get pulled into my 1500's.

I think everyone has had that problem once or twice in their reefin career If it's not a damsel its another fish or invert.

don't mean to change the subject but Shooter7 how did you place your powerheads where they won't disturb the sandbed...its taking mine down to the glass

They are mounted just about at the center of the side glass panes right now. Not the best spot overall in terms of aesthetics or viewing from either side, but allowed me to open them up full. Had to have them down just far enough so they weren't causing white caps on the surface too. Here's a pic that you can see where they are...this way they are shooting the full length of the tank instead of bouncing off any glass and going downward to dig at the sand.

Shooter - What kind of substrate do you have? It looks like a CC or medium based substance. I believe j_beau_13 is using a southdown based substrate which is finer.

Just making observations since I have been following j_beau_13's thread for a while.

No crushed coral here.

Mine is a mixture of sugar fine and slightly larger aragonite. I don't think I'd get any substrate problems if I had all southdown, to be honest. Since the Seios are pointing down the length of the tank, plus they're getting the turbulence from hitting each other's streams to some degree, and I have a MJ900 shooting crosswise directly between the two, I don't get that powerful flow down the glass and into the substrate like I did before.
