2x250watt halides AND...?

What should i put with my 2 250watt halides? I want to add some blue for coralline and looks so i am thinking actinics but what kind? N.O. H.O. V.H.O? Space is limited in my canopy so whatever it is will probably have top go between the halides and the water so i am thinking the smaller the better. 2 t-5's? What would you guys suggest. Also i am working on a budget so price is a factor also.
Thanks in advance!!

A non overdriven T5 kit would work with actinic bulbs.

what are you running for halide bulbs?

That will really determine whether you need blue or violet (420nm vs 450nm)

If you want to add light, maybe some of the URI VHO bulbs with internal reflectors would be a good idea. They might be more efficient than the other choices, assuming there's no room for a standard reflector. I agree that you might not need actinic supplements at all, though, if some appropriate MH bulbs are used. It's really a matter of looks: coralline doesn't need and likely won't benefit much from actinic supplements.

hey guys thanks for the help! I think the bulbs are reefoptic. I bought the system from a friend and he said he bought the cheap bulbs off ebay. I know they are 20k. The reason i am looking for supplementation is b/c his setup had 2 tanks on the same system. The 55 gallon with the halides and a small 25 gallon with 50/50 pcs. he had coralline in the small tank but could never get it to grow in the 55. He thinks it's b/c of the lights since they are using the same water. I like the look of the bulbs now. i wouldn't mind more blue but my main concern is coralline. What would you guys suggest?

Coralline might have done better with more light, but the difference between the tanks could have been any number of issues. Personally, I'd just try the lamps as is for a while, and see how the coralline shapes up.

algae benefits more from the red spectrum of light, not the blue.

50/50's have tons of more red light spectrum then those MH bulbs did. Thats probably the determining factor between the two set ups. the MH would of had more blue then the 50/50 bulbs. so your thinking on the blue bulbs for more corraline is actually backwards.

So violet would be better for coralline?

I'd just ignore the whole issue, personally. People report plenty of coralline growth with a wide range of lighting.
