Sick toadstool?
Ok, when it rains it pours. Two day's ago this toadstool was completely extended. This is what it looks like today. Looks like it is dying to me. The only thing changed is that I added a couple of powerheads to the tank for some circulation. One is fairly close (8 inches or so) but not directly on it. What do you all think?

I'm no expert, but I do know that leathers go through periods of shedding where they may remain closed for extended periods. How are your parameters? Are there any areas of decay?

I second "dqualls" on the adjusting and shedding stage. Can you touch it and see if its skin flake/break. If not, then it should be OK.

There should be a permanent post that says that this is normal for leathers.

I agree
If it was dying the whole thing would shrivel up and probably look really bleached compared to that picture. Whether something bumped against it, its getting used to the new flow, or its shedding.. it looks very fine and healthy to me.. Keep your fingers crossed and give it a week or two, then worry

My toadstools occasionally don't extend their tentacles for several days at a time. If you see black or rotting tissue, then cut that off, do an iodine dip and put the coral back in.
Toadstools are really hardy. I recently moved and my anemones, toadstools, one clown, cleaner shrimp, coral banded shrimp, colt coral, finger leather, and zooanthids are all that survived. I had tons of other stuff that just didn't fare well since I couldn't set the tank up in the new place until the next day.

Thanks for all the advice. Yesterday the big bugger perked back up again and is looking better than ever. It's almost like the crown had a growth spurt.
