T-5 lighting is fine for most all coral. But you need enough watts to keep them happy. Dividing you gallons by total watts will tell you if theres enough. I have t-5 , 8 x 54 = 432 watts divided by 75 gallon tank gives me 5.76 watts per gallon. Most sps's and lps's want minimum of 5 watts per gallon and even then some perfer being higher closer to the light. I think lighting is the most important buy. The better the light the happier you and your coral will be. But the downfall being that good lighting is hard on your wallet.

yes and no. What you want to take into consideration more than watts per gallon is how high the tank is. If you got a tank thats 3 ft high (not that i know of many that are...just using that as an example), then watts per gallon isnt gonna do you much good. you could have 10 watts per gallon but if its too tall, its really not gonna be doing you much good down lower.

That being said, the fixture that demonsp said he has would probably be plenty for just a 70g tank. Thats if the tank is 48 inches long...not sure how long 70's are..most that i see are taller than long. I believe that 54w t5's are 48 inches long, but i'm not sure that the 70g tanks are that long.

If i must be corrected then let it be by sir-dudeguy only heheh . Was up man. Yea there are veribles but i added that some may like it higher to capture more light. That calculation is only basic and some tanks may need more and some less, but good point. Arizona rocks !!
