my wrasse died

hello all i new to the hobby and the problem is my wrasse. it is a lunar wrasse and it has died of empty stomach i think. my parameters are fine but the wrasse did not eat anything for two days after it got home from acclamating. and today it floating on the sand with a stomach kind of like very thin so i took him out of the water to flush down the toilet but it jumped out of my hand and died on the floor. what can I do to correct this problem? any help is appreciate.

in my opinion, it didnt die because it was on 2 days of no food. I know people who havent feed their fish in months and totally neglect the tank and the fish are still alive (tho they look like complete crap

)

What were the actual numbers? Amonia, nitrite, temp, pH, SG?

to me it either sounds like there was one of those wrong, or it was lack of oxegen (couldnt breath...had one last breath or something when he jumped..idk)

what was/is your ph?
alkalinity?
ammonia, nitrate, nitrite?
calcium?
Temperature.
Tank size? Skimmer?

sirdudeguy, I not sure it was oxygen issue b/c i have bubbles everywhere in the tank and my brother said bubble comes from oxygen in the water.

fishysteve, the fish was very fat when he came home in the tank.

jimbo, i think mine is a lunar wrasse. is it the same as six line wrasse?

sk8r my params are fine and as follows

ph is between 80 and 84 it changes daily.
alkalinity is like 10 dkh
ammonia is not detectable
nitrate is like 120 pppm
nitrate is undetectable
calcium is 310
temperature is between 78 and 82 it change daily also
the tank is 220 gallons ... and i dont have a test kit for testing the skimmer? maybe he ate a poisoned coral. some zoo are poisonos.

If nitrates are 120 that is way too high. If your Calcium is 310, and you plan to add any coral, it is way too low. My guess is that this is a very new tank. How long has it been up? What size?, how much live rock? Flow? what is the bioload? Fill us in on these and all of the other details of your tank. Sk8er was asking if you have a skimmer, and if so what is it?

well i set up the tank on the 27 of october. i dont plan on adding any corals b/c i already have all the coral i want in there. what is a skimmer and where can i get one?

Setup on 10/27 and you have corals in there? Did you cycle the tank?

What is a skimmer?

your tank has been set up less than a week, you shouldn't be stocking that tank with anything, it will all die...... slow down and research, research, research....

the fish store guy who sold the tank and the fish and the corals said all I had to do was make sure the water had proper salt in it and the temperature should not get too cold. thanks for the link guys i had no idea that to keep fish and corals i had to do all that stuff before like cycling and everything.

You will find that many people from fish stores are not as knowledgable as they should be. Reef Central is a great resource for a lot of information.

Is that the daily swing of your ph? If so i would think thats a little much.
With your temp if that is your daily swing turn your heater up to 80 so it doesnt dip as low at night.

I agree, don't rely on the LFS people. All it takes is bad advice one time to make your entire system crash. Hope after doing some more research you will be willing to give it a try again. Don't be afraid to make some posts on here asking for advice. After all...that's why were here....Good Luck
