PVC Question
Do you let the primer dry before applying the cement?

I never use the primer. Never had a problem.

You don't have to but if you don't slop it on it only takes a couple of seconds to dry anyways.

I'd like to ask a quick question on the same topic - how long does the cement take to cure before you can run water through the pipes?

I've heard some people running water through the pipes in as little as an hour, but I wait 24 hours just to be safe.

An hour, yikes, I go for about 5 minutes. Have plumbed 20 to 30 tanks this way, never an issue.
The package does say to let it sit for 24 hours (was doing some plumbing work again today.

Thanks guys! I was asking because I actually didn't see a recommended time on the package, which I thought was odd (Oatey medium grey cement for PVC). My plan was to glue tomorrow afternoon, then wet test on Friday, so it sounds like that will work out well

Glue goes on while primer is still wet. Here's a chart on weld-on solvent cement showing "average" cure times.

I used to own a irrigation company so I have glued a few in my day. Only used primer on pipe larger then 1" dia. If you aren't pushing a lot of psi which in aquariums you wont be the glue dries to use in less then 10 minutes.
