jbj ATO question

I just got my ATO today and just got done hooking it up. I hooked it up to a Eheim 1260 pump (just had laying around) and when the water gets done pumping in it siphons almost a gallon after that. I dont have the tube submerged I just have a U shape of tube out of the FW and hanging over the sump wall about 4 inches. Any ideas?

Thats a huge pump to run a top off system with. Also what is the difference between the sump and the FW. If the end of the U is lower then the water level in the FW tank it will keep going.
