Refugium dandqmud depth

Hello
I wonder, what is the optimal sand/mud depth in a Refugium?
It is a small size one (45*10*37 centimeters) and it will work on a 55g tank.
Thanks

No less than 4 inches. Optimum would be 5", more than that is not necessary
