why overflow

okay so do i have to have a tank overflow
can i just use a canister filter
what is the best set up for filtration

The best setup for filtration is a decent size sump/fuge, plenty of LR and a good skimmer. If you use a canister filter then make sure you keep it good and clean or you will end up having nitrate problems.
