bubble coral
I would like to know if a bubble coral would do well under NO lights. 20 watt 18,000k power-glo?
I currently have assorted mushrooms and toadstool that are doing great in there. Tank is 3 years old. I am looking for something other than polyps and zoos that would do okay under this type of lighting with out upgrading my lights. Tank is 25 gal and 14" deep. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.... ![]() |

They require moderate light. 20 watts isn't much light so I wouldn't recommend it. They are not the easiest coral to keep either. They often wither away over time.

I doubt that your lighting would be enough. BB coral is LPS requires medium-strong light (3-5 w/gallon) & low-medium flow & need to be fed. Coral itself is not that picky but you need to maintain proper Ca, dkH & PH.

They also get long sweeper tentacles and can sting other corals.
My first coral was a bubble coral 23 yrs ago and I still have it. It's been through alot but still alive. I had to move it to my 150 from my 55 cuz it got sweepers like a foot long and was stinging other corals. I wouldnt get one in that size tank or under that light even though they can handle lower light. 1 20 watt bulb is'nt much light and prolly not enough. Oh and as far as need to be fed. I never feed mine lol. kass |

Truthfully I would get a different light as it's what corals need to grow and very important in keeping them.
You don't even have 1 watt per gallon and most people try to have 5 watts or more per gallon. I had NO bulbs on my reef for around 20 yrs but I had 4 40 watt bulbs on my 55 gal. 2 10k, an actinic and a triton. Even with 4 bulbs it kept things alive but most did'nt really thrive. I then changed to 4 55 watt PC's plus 2 40 watt NO bulbs and I still was'nt happy with it. Now I have 6 54 watt HO T5's and love it. My corals are doing much better and overall are happier. My tank is much brighter and I can even keep SPS and clams. In my nano I have PC's. 54 watts on a 12 gallon aquapod. Corals seem happy in there to cuz it's a shallow tank and around 5 watts per gallon. I keep mostly softies, zoa's and some LPS in there. You don't have a huge tank so better lights should'nt cost too much. I think if you changed it to more light you'd love it. kass |
