sand wont settle!!
well i finally have my 40 breeder up and i rinsed my sand put it in filled it with water, and even though its not as cloudy as my first tank, this just not seem to clearing up as fast. i want to wait for it to get nice and clear before i get my rock, even though i know that would help it settle, i hate turkey bastering the rock for weeks afterward. any suggestions? other than patience.

The best thing you can do is get the rock in there now. Once the bacteria gets on the sand then it will help keep it down.

I am in the same predicament. I have an established 30 gallon and am setting up a 65 gallon. Filled it wit 100 lbs of Southdown sand and it is really cloudy.
Would transfering some sand from the established 30 gallon (araglive sand) introduce enough bacteria to help promote the clearing process? Currently I have just been running 2 canister filters (with fine filter) to try and clear things up. Thanks...

I third that statement. Further don't use bottled bacteria products, or any other product where bacteria is 'packaged'. There just is no substitute of live rock and patience.

im using southdown to, and when set my first tank up i filled it with water first, then 2 bags of dry southdown. wow it looked like a bomb went off in the tank. like i said this time i rinsed it real good, but its still pretty cloudy. i guess i will go ahead and order the rock, i know it helped the first one. hopefully since its rinsed it wont be as much basting this time. thanks guys. i will be getting a digital camera soon so i can post some pics too.

So mine sat idol for about a week, filled with sand and water. I hooked up two canister filters and after 2 days there was no obvious improvement.
This morning I moved 4-5 large pieces of live rock from my established tank into the new one. This evening (about 7 hrs later) the tank is almost completely clear. So I guess he trick is to get that live rock and bacteria in there.
