(NOTE: If the photo doesn't show, try a refresh. My FTP site stinks.)
This open brain isn't looking so hot. You can see the tissue loss, and he has some other stringy stuff coming off. Is there any chance an open brain in this condition can make it, or should I pull it now? ![]() Bought at LFS last Sunday. Looked good for two days, fed it once, then it started to go bad. Parameters: Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates something less than 10 Temp 80 PH 8.1~8.2 SG -1.025 Lights 4x96 PC (2 x 10,000K + 2 x actinic) All other corals look great. Thoughts? |

Mine was bleached white when I got it. Happy as can be now; you have hope.

I got a deal on a red colored one from a LFS that had a good size chunk out of the one side. I was hoping it would recover and it has as I heard if the tissue gets torn up it can be the start of the end. The tissue healed up and its slowly growing back out over the area it had receeded from. I feed it Mysis shrimp on a reg basis and its responded well.

OK, I'll stick with it. Anything special I can do other than provide good water quality? I fed it on Monday and it ate. I tried feeding it again Thursday night but the food just sat there until a shrimp came by and snatched it. Maybe it wasn't hungry yet, or too stressed.

Fountainhead,
I found that waiting till later in the day when the lights go out it was easier to feed it. My MH`s go out and then my actinics run for about an hr. Its during this time its little sweepers come out and it engorges some and I can feed it quite a few mysis. I`ve also put Selcon in with the mysis and soaked them for awhile. I really don't know how much is absorbed or even if the brain uses it in a beneficial way but it takes them...

It still looks like if its hanging in there, if your water parameters are perfect chances are high it will make a full recovery, good thing to do would be put on your attinics only if you can and let some food float in the water, when you see its feder tentacles coming out , turn all circulation off and grab a turkey paster and put some mysis shrimps near its mouth this should help it get better.
