Skimmer not skimming after adding Magnum 350

I wanted to run some charcoal and phosphate media so I added a canister filter to my 30g tank (Magnum 350). I do not have a sump. I also have an AquaC Remora that had been skimming well for me until I added the canister. A few days ago I just defended the Remora on another thread and this is how it thanks me

I am running Black Diamond and Drs. F&S PhosPure in the canister along with the filter sleeve. I was going to remove the sleeve in a few days after cleaning the tank a bit.

I also added some macro algea and a few lettuce slugs to the tank this week. Don't know why they should reduce the skimming. I would think the mucus from the slugs would add to the organics that skimmer should take care out but maybe I am wrong there.

The skimmer is running and produced bubbles. The bubbles are just not rising up the tube to the collection cup. After a day of no skimmate, I cleaned the skimmer and it has been running for another day now without any production at all.

Any ideas on why I'm not getting any skimming?

I was going to turn off the canister for a short period to test how/if that effects the skimmer.
