sump suggestions???

i am def going to switch from my canister filter to a sump...

my question is...

should i used overflow prefilter box with wet-dry all in one to the sump

or

screw the wet-dry bio ball design and just do regular sump?

2nd Q...

what pump should i use, to return the water to my tank... and how big should i make it?

and do you absolutly need, baffles to seperate everything?

Hi, I would stay away from bio-balls (I have read, and experienced high nitrates) when using them.
I would go with a 20l or 30l (they say as big as you can go)
baffles will save you headaches later
micro bubbles, macro algea going where you dont want it, etc...
you can get acrylic or glass cut to size at a frame shop
and silocone them in

20l or 30l i presume to be the size of the pump to return the water?

does anybody have any suggestion on what model pump?

20 long or 30 long tank to make into a sump
as far as the return pump, it should match the overflow
if you have a overflow box rated at 800 gal per hour
then your return pump should be rated at 800 gph
I use a cpr overflow and a mag 9.5 for return pump

no meaning as in a 20g long tank or a 30g long tank for your actual sump that you could divide with different sections
and ya i agree the bigger you can fit the more water you can have. ( which is a good thing) if ur going to be using a sump with your 55g then i would use a eheim 1250 or 1260 for a return pump i have a 1262 and is very quiet but kinda pricy or a mag which will do the job just as good

and do i have to factor in the fact that the return line going to the display tank is 4 ft above the sump pump...

gravity reducing the gph, therefore needing a bigger pump then the suggested overflow box?
