Question Trachyphyllia geoffroyi placement

Is anybody keeping these corals on their rockwork?

I would like to get one and put it on top of my rockwork under a 250 Watt MH. It would be about 12" from the bulb. It would have medium flow. I have read that they can be placed on the sand but I believe I've read they can go on the rocks too.

Or am I confusing them with Lobophyllia hemprichii?

I believe these can go on the rockwork. I'm looking for a nice red coral to go on top of my rockwork. I have no more sandbed left. I would prefer the Trachyphyllia, but if I guess I could find a nice Lobophyllia it would work.

Both should be placed low to middle on the rocks.

I have both, and have had them for over 2 yrs. My Lobo is in the middle of my rockwork of my 90 with 2x250 MH and 2x110 VHO. My Trachyphyllia is on the sand. Both are exactly where I place them when I got them and have shown amazing growth.

Trachyphllia should be placed on the sand. also the red's should be in a shaded area of the tank IME. they are suposed to be harvested in deeper water than the brighter green colored ones. hope this helps.

Alright, then it appears that the Trachyphyllia is out for now. Maybe the Lobophyllia hemprichii is still an option. Is there another LPS type coral that is medium to high light and available in nice red color?

Trachy will do fine on substrate and lower rock work.
