CSS 65 or 125? for a 20 gal tank.

Should I get the Coralife Super skimmer that is rated for 65 gal or the one that is rated for 125 gal. The price differance isnt to bad, but it is for a 20 gal tank. (eventualy maybe a 55). Are there any differneces i ntheir designes/pumps/ect.?

With the skimmer bigger is better. I use super skimmer 125 in my 75 gal and collect real well. They freak at everything tho. From sticking hand in to new equipment. I had to turn mine off 24 hours everytime i used super glue or epoxy. Placing it in my refugium cured this tho. Not sure but that 125 might be a little large for 55 gal but if not i would.

I would personally go with the larger skimmer because when you upgrade it is one less thing you have to buy.

You think it may be to big for a 55? Keep in mind, this is acctualy going on a 20gal (nano) FOWLR. Do you think the 125 will be to much for that application?

I think that the CSS 125 will be fine for a 55 but might be to big for a 20 gallon. I have a CSS 125 on my 60 gallon and I am really happy with it.

dude i did the same exact thing and the 125 wasnt too much skimming on the 20 just turn the water level in the skimmer down that way the bubbles have a longer way to travel. However im still kicking myself cause i went from a 20 gal long to a 55 to a 100 in less than a month and now i wish i got the 220 skimmer!

The 125 works a lot better in a sump. If you are married to your 20, the CSS65 would probably be your better choice, but if you are planing to upgrade to a 75 or so, you would want the 125. Turning the 20 into a sump for a 75 somewhere down the line is pretty typical for those that started with a 20.

As it stands right now I do not see anythign larger than the 20gal in the near (year or two) future. Maybe a 10gal fuge..maybe. Is the pump smaller on the 65 (dimention wise).
