mesh bag concerns

I have been using chemi pure put into my aquapod sump, the only filtration I have is this carbon and the skimmer.

Whenever I pull out the chemipure after a couple of months the bag looks brown, full of dirt and detritus.

I was wondering if this is possibly a problem because the food get trapped in this bag and become a source of nitrates.. I guess it's no different than the detritus build up under the bottom of the compartments in these all in one tanks..?

I just installed the phosban reactor so I am going to put the chemipure in there as well and discard the bag next time.. would this be much better?

yes and the effect of the carbon will be better to because the water will flow direct thru the carbon .

i use the reactor and the bag in the sump---------putting it in the reactor is going to make it remove more DOC's----just remove them faster and exhaust it faster....carbon doesnt last long despite what any package tells you
(i use chemi pure too and the 4-6 months is BS)
