Anyfish could go in without QT, but doing so risks the stability of the tank. If you stick that fish in, and the fish gets ich, you'll wind up having to take the fish back out and leave the tank fallow for about 8 weeks before any other fish can be put in. Qt the fish for 4-6 weeks will look awfully good at that point.

agreed. I learned the hard way, was in such a rush to get a fish in there, lost it to ick and had to wait another 2 months lol

Canfield, there is nothing sadder than watching your first fish die from ich, especially when it could have been easily avoided. I know everyone puts alot of pressure on newbies to QT everything, this comes from years of trial and error throughout the aquarium world. And many, myself included, had to learn the hard way. Ignoring the QT process is not a good way to start out if you want to try and save some money in the hobby. Medicating a tankful of fish can cost a bit not to mention is a pain in the rear for both fish and humans.
