Lighting Upgrade
I have a 120 ga rectangular tank that I am setting up as a FOWLER system along with some easy to keep inverts and soft corals. The tank has a Perfecto hood with two 36" fluorscent strip lights with one 30 watt bulb in each light.
I realize that his is really under powered and want to upgrade the strip lights. After extensive internet searching I came across a compact fluorscent strip light made by All-Glass Aquarium. It packs 110 watts per strip from 2 compact bulbs, for a grand total of 220 watts for my tank. Now onto my questions: Does this seem like it would provide adaquate light? Does anyone have any info about the quality of these lights? Ideally I would like to have a strip light that incorporates moonlight LED lights as well but haven't been able to find one that looks like it would fit my hood. Does anyone know of such a light? |

That is plenty sufficient for a FOWLR. Basically the lighting in a FOWLR is for aesthetics and a daylight cycle as fish don't really need anything intense. Actually, the NO lights would even work ok but don't really make the tank look that great.
As far as moonlights, corallife makes the lunar lights which contain LEDs. However, if you have a hood, you can mount LEDs on their own in the hood. The cost about $14/pc and are really easy to wire. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...roduct=CU01652

Ended up scrapping the plastic Perfecto hood. Ordered a glass top and lunar aqualight by coralife. What the hell, it's only money.
