T5HO vs. VHO
i am trying to decide whether to go with T5HO or VHO. it will be for a 96 x 30 x 30 tank a 375gal. i will be using 4 x 400watt metal halides.
What should i go with? |

If this is just supplimental lighting the VHO actinics are hard to beat.
Of course you could do a combination of VHO Actinics and T5 blue pluses ![]()

I am curious about this as well. Why would VHO's be better for actinic supplementation than the t5's?

The VHO actinics are just better according to many.....I don't have personal experience so I can't say. But Grim knows his stuff...

I have ho t5 actinic as suppliment to 10k halides and the mix looks perfect to me.

THe VHO actinics (especially UVL (or as they used to be know URI)) bulbs give a better color to corals.... they flores (sp?) better under the VHO bulbs than under the T5
Personall experience (Grim had me on T5 2 years ago, only change since then is removing T5 actinc and replaceing with VHO actinic) as well as a lengthy conversation with a couple of the UVL people at MACNA in Houston about all kinds of things (including their opinion of their T5 actinic bulb vs VHO actinic bulb).
