Lets make a list of Reef DVDs & Videos, mmm-kay?
Hey guys and gals,
I was asked for christmas gift ideas, and I dont like to get greedy and ask for big things like cameras and such (things that I would rather pick out myself), but I thought it would be pretty cool to start adding reef/ocean life DVD's to my collection. I find myself watching Nature, NOVA, and National Geographic so much, why shouldnt I own some of those vids? So anyways, I am aware of a few that Amazon sells... Nature: Ocean Wonders http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000EHQ...445172-2066815 Ocean Odyssey http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000HLD...445172-2066815 NOVA: Treasures of the Great Barrier Reef http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000HIV...445172-2066815 The Living Sea (IMAX) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=32DQWBZRL2KY9 Coral Reef Adventure (IMAX) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=32DQWBZRL2KY9 And of course: The Blue Planet - Seas of Life Collector's Set http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=32DQWBZRL2KY9 but I know there are many more that I havent even mentioned: http://www.shoppbs.org/product/index...954&cp=1377932 http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/shop/suckers.html http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/seahorse/ http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/algae/ So I was hoping others could add to this list, and perhaps with links for info or places to buy the DVD / video. I know there is one that I wish I could find. I think it was Nature, but not sure... could have been NG, but on PBS for sure. But it was a 1 hour segment on non-coral reef critters that tend to live in the mud/sediment zones of otherwise open areas. I think it was on about a year or so ago, and included mandarins (scooters), mantis-shrimp, sargassum/frogfish, grass-eels, pistol shrimp/gobies, jawfish, starfish, blue-ring octos, etc. It was pretty cool so if anyone remembers what that was, please let me know. Otherwise, what are some of your favorites?!?!! |

So do any of you know what program Im talking about... the one I saw on PBS a year or two ago about all sorts of 'muck dwellers' in the reef? It had peppermint octopus, pistol shrimp, frogfish and shrimp hanging out in gorgonians, dragonets...

Sorry I can't add to the list, but there's one I always wondered about. Whenever you walk into Sears or Circuit City into the TV section, they're always playing this ongoing reef video set to music. It's awesome and I've never been able to figure out what it is or where to get it. Anyone know?

I got a John Pennekamp DVD off Amazon last year....not worth it IMO but if you are a Fl Keys fan, it isnt the worst thing to watch in the dead of winter.

Wayne Shang put out a DVD to go along with his book. It documents a mass spawning event of Tridacna clams in his 700 gallon reef. There are no words as it is just set to music but his tank is amazing.
The DVD is called "The captive marine aquarium, mass spawning of Tridacna clams in captive system" As far as I know it is only available with his book that he wrote. |

There's a national geographic film that I've seen on reefs, but I can't remember the title.
