I need help.. Sand / Crushed corals

I was wondering, when you are using sand in your aquarium, where I live I can choose between crushed corals (3mm) or just a normal sand...
My LFS sells it as white cichlid sand.
Is there any difference in freshwater cichlid sand and the crushed coral ?
My LFS says that this ciclid sand does not affect Ph and other stuff, but the crushed coral will get it higher and I will get a lot of good bacteria ?
Is he only trying to sell my crushed coral (whits is a lot more expensive) or is he right ?

Crushed coral is from TMC (something with high oolites?)
Ciclid sand is from Eldorado (akvastabil I think)
