Starting a temporary tank
I need to start a temporary tank to house some things while rebuilding my 75. Can i just use some tank water and a hang on filter on a 40 breeder without having to cycle it.

Tank water has nothing in it to stop a tank from cycling.
Put some filter material in your tank for a couple of days. Fill the 40 with some rock from your tank, fill it with newly mixed water & put on the filter.

Thanks. I don't mind putting some of my rock in it. I just want my fish to stay healthy while I rebuild and recycle. Most of my corals have died out but I do have a couple I want to save. My 75 is 6 years running and I just can't keep it stable any more so I'm starting over with dry rock and sand.
