using 6500k to get more growth
Asking anyone use 6500k bulbs to get more growth size from corals.
I am building a frag growout and want to get the most size for a bigger tank in a year or so. I can always color them back up in a display with mhs. I was thinking maybe ge 6500k and one actinic or blue plus.

The only thing 6500k will grow is algae. That is to say that there is very little use for 6500k as far as corals are concerned. If you are running LED's, most fixtures have some cool whites which are in the 6000k range. That spectrum helps to brighten up the looks of the tank more than anything else. Corals get most of their photosynthetic radiation from much higher kelvin. The white that is included in most fixtures is more for aesthetics than it is for coral growth. You would be better suited using much more blue/royal blue/ ultra violet ratio wise than more white than blue.
