How important is an Ozone generator in a FOWLR tank?

If I crank up the UV generator, and have sufficient skimming, how necessary is an ozone generator (which I would have to buy parts for and service)?? No corals in tank. Reading some of the technical stuff on ozone makes my head spin, and if not really necessary, I'd prefer not to do it. Opinions, please. Thanks...

It isn't necessary. It can help keep things cleaner, and help greatly with water color quality (important if you have long runs). We have several large FO and FOWLR tanks (700 - 1000 gallons) and don't run ozone.

Helpful but definitely not essential.

Barry, ozone is easy to administer and monitor via an ORP meter/controller but as mentioned, not necessary.

Alternatively, a low level of ozone can be produced at a level which does not need to be controlled; I have been doing so for years. (However both of my tanks are reef tanks not FOWLR)

Could you go further into how you do this and give some specifics or supply a link? I've been interested in running low levels of ozone in a "set it and forget it" type of setup.

Does low level ozone provide the same benefit as higher levels?

thanks

What are the benefits you are trying to achieve?
