First chamber bulkheadless outflow for a 24G Nano Cube

Since Agu is starting a nano DIY thread, I thought I'd post a DIY for people who wish to increase the flow on their 24G Nano Cube without drilling.

You know, I tried that famous mod of putting the stock pump in my first chamber, wedged behind the grate, since I swapped it our for a Maxijet 1200 in chamber 3 when I first started up my cube. Didn't fit well....shot water upward...pulled debris out of the sponge (which I have long since gotten rid of). It still made more sense to me tho', that, flow should continue in a progression from chamber 1 --> 3. So...I initially put the stock pump AND the MJ in chamber 3 but the pull was too great. I now have the stock pump in chamber 1. Together, it gives 20X flow. It's an easy mod if you are intimidated by dremelling or have already setup a 24 and you can't drill.

Parts:
1) 1/2 elbows, Home Depot, sprinkler area
2) black tubing
3) ratchet ties

The initial outflow when it was in chamber 3.

Outflow after moving to chamber 1...allows use of the cassette skimmer mod.

The outflow nozzle actually doesn't have a big profile at all and I feel much better that I didn't have to put the entire powerhead in the chamber. The clearance between the splash guard and the tubing is close but the hood closes completely and securely. The water level in all three chambers hasn't fallen. So...this gives those without the technical skill and time and forethought to drill a bulkhead ( a what?? lol) to have additional flow. SH

It's been running on mine for over 2 years without incident. Was easy to DIY and saved a lot of drilling, etc.

I'll try and put a pic here later. The light was called The Executive Light and it was purchased at Costco. I've seen them at Home Depot. It is a desklamp with a small 4 tube compact PC light and it drove my chaeto crazy. SH

A submersible desk lamp? or did you just silicone a tube around it?

The back lining is cut off...the back of the tank is covered with a sticky vinyl paper. Cut it off and it exposes the middle chamber. SH

Indeed...chaeto can really fill a chamber with good lighting and good water flow. SH

Originally added was a small ball of chaeto about 2-3 inches across. It grew out and filled the entire rear middle chamber.
