We acquired this coral yesterday and cannot remeber the name of it, can someone help us out?

Looks like a wellsophyllia, but the color is wild! That's my guess though. If it is a wellsy, it's a very oddball one! Nice!

It's a Trachyphyllia (same as Wellso, but Wellso is no longer used), also known as an Open Brain Coral, an large stony polyp coral. Needs moderate lighting (not intense) and frequent feedings of meaty seafoods (Mysis, etc.)

Thanks guys, I thought it was an open brain, but all the open brains I've seen have had a lot thicker rims than this one.
Think this is ok placement for it??? Bottom left corner, 24" high tank with 2x 250W halides ![]() sorry for the crappy pic, still trying to figure out the camera

Yes, that looks good. These corals really can't handle direct MH lighting. You should definitely put it in a corner or under an overhang or something.
