Best HOB skimmer for 50 gallon

I have read various threads regarding pros and cons for HOB skimmers. I think I am more confused than I was before I began. Currently I'm running a Prism Pro on my 50 gallon tank and would like to upgrade. I feed this tank on the moderately heavy side. Price is a consideration for me, and I would prefer to keep the cost in the $150 or lower range. Suggestions are appreciated (and if you know a good online distributor, feel free to include that info. Thank you in advance.

I would suggest an Aqua C Remora Pro. I have not had any issues with this skimmer at all and simply hooked up my mag5 pump and adjust the rubberband to adjust cup height . literally plug and play. i have had great experiences with its little sister, Aqua C Remora, and would suggest these easy to use HOB skimmers!

Everybody hates the aquariums systems skimmer but it works fine for me and not too pricy.

Look into the octopus hob skimmers, I think you can get one for around $129.99 plus shipping. Don't waste your money on an Aqua C Remora, they are junk and never skim consistently.

Eshopps has a VERY good reputation, the Octo is great too, tough choice between them. Skip the remora all together!

Sorry to barge into this thread, but I'm also looking for info on skimmers.

Would this work for a 90gal reef? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...id=19865&r=566

Thanks,
Terence

I will look into Eshopps and Octopus and try to find the best price. Again, thank you all for your input. I know people are forever asking which skimmer is best, so I appreciate your willingness to point me in a direction.

You could be the guinea pig and try CPR's new recirc HOB. I've been wondering if they're any good.

I'll be quite frank with you; 90G is a pretty big amount of water for any HOB skimmer to handle. In my personal opinion/experience, Deltec makes the best HOB skimmers around but the price isn't cheap. If you are on a limited budget but want something decent, try the Eshopps PSK-100H.

I'd be willing to bet a Bubble King that any of the above brands mentioned would run circles around it. Then again, my last experience with CPR skimmers left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe they've improved? Who knows.
