Smile OK, you're starting your brand new reef tank so...................

Pick your brand for your equipment. Stay within a reasonable budget. I think this will be fun.

---skimmer Sell the bubble king and buy another MRC. Forget that whole go green thing. I rather have performance.
---salt RC, NEO salt, or TM
---power heads Vortech or closed loop
---controller Apex
---heater Finnex
---chiller Computer fan
---reactors Geo and Nextreef
---lights 4 250 MH and 6 t5
---water test stuff Electronic when I can
---dosers Geo calcium reactor, but I would buy a litemetter III for water changes
---rock TB saltwater, brs, or Marco
---sand Medium grain pure white

Current Tank Info: 125 gallon Mix reef, SPS and LPS, MRC MR-2 skimmer, BK 250 on my Qt tank, GEO Cal reactor, Apex controller, 2 mp40's, Tunze ATO, and litermeter III for auto water changes.

Actually I just started my latest reef a few months ago.

---tank type, size...110 DSA Pentagon, 40x40 with 4 sides viewable
---stand/canopy type...Self made pentagon, dark mahogany colored
---return pump...Currently a mag 3, but it changes frequently
---skimmer...ASM G3, Recirculating, with a Laguna recirc pump, GenX 1500 feed pump
---salt...50/50 mix of IO and Oceanic
---power heads...2-Tunze 6100
---controller...Human brain
---heater...Finnex 300 watt Titanium
---chiller...Via Aqua that has been in the closet for years, I haven't needed it
---reactors...canister filter for Rox8 carbon and BRS GFO, Bio Pellets are currently offline
---lights...a single 150 watt HQI Radium in a LAIII Mini
---water test stuff...Salifert and Hanna PO4 Checker
---dosersMRC CaRx that I redesigned, 5lb cylinder and Aquarium Plants Electronic regulator, Milwaukee controller
---rock...about 60 lbs of Marco and some LFS live rock for seeding
---sand...30 lbs of Oolitic and 40 lbs of Reef Floor Special Grade
I also run a 25 mg Sanders Ozonizer, Milwaukee ORP Controller

Pic right after all livestock added, I need to take some fresh ones as I have changed some things around.

475g is already to small.... & to think it's not even plumed yet

Love a 20x10x5ft tank a friend has been servicings for a year or so in DC

if I had the funds I would of done this but the tank was 3x's more money

180 (15 feet) x36x30in
wood stand (made the mistake of doing metal on my present tank)
used the same Red Dragon 12m3 for circulation
a few MP60's would be added
not sure on skimmer....... maybe add a second ER/RD RC-500 since it fits under the stand
FO so 4 250w MH's with luminarc's is all I need for lighting
don't need no stinking sand..... crushed coral or something similar... 1/4 to 1/2 in
