Help me pick a HOB skimmer please!

Hello folks,

I am trying to decide among a couple of options for my 55g FOWLR. I am looking for used on all models. I had a new Eshopps 75 and within 1.5 years the pump is no longer functional. I have tried to do as much research as possible and these are the ones I am considering:

1. Aquamaxx hob
2. Deltec MCE600 (about 5 years old)
3. Octopus BH-1000

I am somewhat limited with the space behind the tank. Another bit of info - I purchased a used Octopus BH-2000 and the noise it made was unbearable! Sounded like a small lawn mower. Tried using a regulator on the tubing, putting cotton in the silencer, restarting, etc. all to no avail. I don't know if this was a fluke or do I run the risk of having this kind of noise again with the BH-1000? Is any one of these a good choice? Is there something better about 1 skimmer over another?? Any help is appreciated!!

I am in the same boat with you. My thread is here:http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2182716

I am leaning toward the Aquamaxx for my size tank.

I have the Reef octopus bh 1000 skimmer on my 50 gallon breeder tank, it is fairly quiet. Just hear a little from the air intake. My system is in my living room.

My vote is for the AquaMax. I have this beast working on my 60 gallons tank wonderfully. Very very satisfied w/ this protein skimmer unit
