Sulfur denitrator

Anybody have experience with reactions to sps to sulfur media or reactors as opposed to vodka vinegar Heard sulfides bother or irritate. Not sure if true. Have a reactor all seeded ready to go in different tank that i could switch over.

Tagging along. I've run a sulfur reactor for years but would like to hear the discussion.

I'm tagging along also, I have a sulfur reactor ready to go for my sps tank but haven't put it on line due to the same uncertainties.

I've used one off and on for a few years. Currently using a 8"X32" GEO denitrator on my 1100 gallon system...produces 200cc/minute of zero nitrate. Tank nitrate is 8-10....once they kick in, they work very well.

GEO is making me an 8" x 24" denitrator for my 450 net gallon system. Just ordered it last weekend. I currently have about .7 gallons of sulfur and my flow is maxxed out.

Ok. So you assume no issues with it or have experience with sulfur with sps??

The problem with denitrator is the feed pump, tough to keep consistent, either the feed pump would slow down or my recirculating pump would act up (deltec). I did get hydrogen sulfides because of the feed pump Aqua Lifter, I still have not sprung for the high dollar peri pump.

Yep, consistent effluent rate is the key. Really hard to mess up a sulfur denitrator otherwise, IME.

I break my denitrators down and service them once a year. Amazing how much bacterial detritus accumulates in the sulfur media. If you pour the sulfur into a bucket an add water, the slough off looks like white/gray oatmeal.

I'm using a small power head with valve and drilled an orp probe in there frtying to watch drip and orp level between minus 150 and 250. I guess I test nitrate in effluent supposedly some of the peri pumps didn't put enough pressure through or ran to inconsistent short pulses. If this works well I will probably switch pumps. Maybe ythe pump aunder pressure is why I'm getting some leaking from the top nipple screws.

I built a diy reactor from a thread here on rc. I am using a line off my main return pump for my feed pump and the diy reactor uses a maxijet 1200 for the circulation. Within 4 days the drip rate of 1 drop per second were reading 0. I would guess my output at about 3 drops per second now still with no nitrates. Only maintenance has been bleeding off the gas from the top of the reactor once a day. couldnt be any simpler
Jeff.
