Are you wondering if they can?
I don't own one but surely it could be used in that way. When I expand downstairs that will likely be the pump I use.

Lots of discussion on this topic in the long vectra thread. Pump is really designed for flow rather than pressure so you'll lose a lot depending on how many vertical feet you need to pump against.

I know they are more of a flow pump. I have 3 m1 on my closeloop and I have seen L1 running but with very little head. It moves a lot of water, I was very pleased with the flow .I have 10 ft of head from my sump.Im very happy with my m1 dead quiet and great flow

Interesting. Well they are rated at 21'. But yeah Some first hand experience running them that way would be great.

I'm also running the M1 on a closed loop and it works really well. As a pump against pressure, I'm not so sure. If you look at the flow curves, you'll lose half of flow (maybe more, can't recall exactly) against 10 feet. Maybe still makes it a worthwhile choice.

Check out the Vectra thread that's ongoing, lots of good info in there. As mentioned these pumps are built for pressure versus head. If you're looking for head pressure, Iwakis are great pumps - just energy suckers.

Yeah that's the problem isn't it? An energy efficient high head pump is needed.
