Upgrading moonlighting for RedSea max 34gal

Something is up with the factory moonlights in my tank, I will occasionally catch them working but nothing consistent. I had read some old posts about upgrading with stunner strips but all the links to any kind of walkthrough are to old. Does anyone have any experience upgrading the moonlights or lighting in general with the hood system on the Red Sea nano’s?
