SPS system
Will I be able to keep SPS in a 65 gallon tank with no overflows and 2 powerheads and a hang on back aquaclear filter? I have a hang on back red sea prizm pro skimmer I could add too. The lighting is strong over one side (250de 10k) and soon I'll have a 2X400watt setup. Please let me know if you think that SPS will do well in this system. It seems like all the other tanks that have SPS in them are barebottom tanks with large sumps and big return pumps.
Thanks. |

If you are going to go ahead with this I strongly recommend you got a high quality skimmer. Keeping a very low nutrient tank will be difficult with the Prizm. I hate to break it to you, but they are junk. I would ditch the filter as well. It will not provide any benifits. You will need more flow than what you have planned as well.

I would add a MUCH better skimmer.
I would also add more flow, and would stay with the 250w light. 400's would be overkill on this size tank, may cause heating/bleaching issues ... and IMO just a waste of power for this size tank. Nothing wrong with the tank size and 250w ... but I would do something else for much flow, and for filtration I would get a far far better skimmer. Then, with patience, you'd probably have a lot better luck IMO.

Skimmer will give you better colors than the 400's will

Thanks for the advice. What kind of skimmer can I use without a sump? Is there a better hang-on.
Thanks. |

If you add a sump you'll have many more options.
