Many people have had success. However Clown Tang's require large tanks with plenty of swimming room. These fish get big and can be aggressive. (especially if it feels cramped). 180g 6' minimum if you plan to keep one for any length of time. Hope this helps...

These fish are just mean. The only one I know of with long term success is in a prop system of a LFS employee b/c it went into mutliple customer tanks and killed fish. It killed fish in small and large tanks alike. I guess you could always get lucky, but why tank the chance in an established tank.

Wink Clown Tang

I have had my Clown Tang for over four years. It is the toughest and hardiest fish I have ever had. It eats everything I feed it, flake, live brine, krill, pellets etc. It is also the meanest fish I have ever had! It will even attack my hand when I work on the tank.

I had it in my reef tank (60 gallon) until just recently, when I moved it to a 70 gallon tall tank with a Moray and some damsels. It has probably killed 20 fish in the four years that I have had it, starting with 2 yellow tangs and a hippo tang it grew up with, the rest were mostly damsels. Nicest thing about him is he will even eat from my hand.

I just added one to my tank.I also have 3 yellow 1 purple, and a kole tang.My kole is the meanest and smallest. The clown is aggressive when pushed but for the most part he just swims back and forth across the tank.He eats pellets and frozen food.He isn't mean like my kole.
