who runs tunze osmolator with kalwasser?

Been thinking about getting the tunze osmolator for an auto-top-off, but would like to use limewater for the top-off water. Anyone out there try this? I'm leary of the PH swing with such a fast pump, but maybe I'm just paranoid. Anyone have experience with this set up? Thanks

Dar

Have the Osmolator doing the exact thing you are looking at in 2 set ups dosing Kalk water 2 ways.

Small system uses the Osmolator and pumps water through a Tunze Calcium (Kalk) container and into the tank. All top-off water is replaced with it

Large system uses the Osmolator and pushes the top off through a GEO Nielsen (Kalk) reactor and then into the tank.

Never had a problem with either pushing too much Kalk water. It doses just a bit at a time all day long so it really does not spike the systems PH at all.

I will shut off the Osmolator during water changes or the like so it wont sense low water level and just start pumping away till I get the water level back to norm again. I usually change water and then plug the Osmolator back in.

The Osmolator does have a self shut off if it runs too long so it a little safety back up if needed and wont bombard the system with Kalk water if you get a leak or etc. Its a slow steady pump and only pushes x amount of water. I`m not sure of its rating at the moment but its not really that high

I also use a Tunze osmolator with a MRC Nielsen kalk reactor with no problems to date. pH swings are negligible since the osmolator doses very small quantities of water frequently.

I also use the same thing. I really didn't see much inprovment to my Cal. and Alk. readings using this set-up. I still need to dose the 2 part to keep the levels up and my demand is light. I'm considering a Calcium reactor. If I do i'll remove the neilson reactor.

I dump Mrs' Wages straight into my topoff reservoir. I made an eggcrate bottom to keep the pump out of the slurry and I rinse it with water and vinegar ever time it's time to fill up the reservoir. If the pump clogs up, it's only $20 to replace. This setup has bee working well with my Ca reactor. Getting great growth from my SPS.
