I run a carbon filter from time to time just to get the little particles out of the water channel. It is not required in my opinion if you are skimming.
I do not use the el cheapo carbon though...I run Kent's.

A carbon filter. no you don't need one.
However.. carbon is highly beneficial, most people just put some in a small filter bag and plop it into a high flow area, usually the sump or overflow. I go the cheap way.. white nylon pantyhose works great, cut them to length, tie off an end, put some carbon pellets in, tie off the top, plop in the sump where my skimmer disharges, and then change every month or so. |
