All my other corals seem better now that I added a refugium but for some reason my clam is not opening fully like it did before. Any ideas?

Posting a picture of your clam would be of great help. Also, list your Ca, Alk, Mg, Salt, and tempreature.
How long have had the Clam? What kind is it? What do you have for livestock? Lastly, I would post this in the "Tridacnid Clam and Other Mullosks" forum. Some pretty good guys/gals in that forum. Really need a picture though.

I had a weird thing happen to my clam. A snail shell got wedged into it's hinge and basically the stress from trying to open finally killed the clam. I managed to get the shell out of it but it was too late.

Well, that is one way of increasing my post count, hit the mouse before I'm ready
![]() I was thinking a number of things; 1. Stress due to improper water chemistry 2. PM 3. Another animal/fish nipping at him 4. Parasitic Snails

Well the Clam died. Here is what my water tests showed.
Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Ph 8.2 Temp 79-81 Salinity 1.023 Nitrate 0 Other corals that are doing great: Hammers, polyps, mushrooms, frogspawn, anemones, Candycanes. I didn’t see any parasites and all my other live stock including fish are fine as well. My friend said it was probably the lighting. I am thinking that might be the possibility as the clam was placed close to the sand bed. ![]() |

Sorry to hear about the clam. How long did you have it?
Lighting can be a topic of great debate when it comes to clams. I would think that if all 460W of your lights were 10K or 14K and the clam was placed higher in the tank, it should have been OK. I had a sqamosa that died with in a week that I had it. I am convinced that the LFS that I got him from tore him off the rock that he was on. All my other clams, I got out of the LFS tank by being patience and annoying them until they let go on thier own. Do you know what your Ca, Alk and Mg are?
