Can I order this Aquasafe Ro/di unit ?

I have read alot of good things about the aquasafe ro/di units so I was wondering if this system from ebay is okay to order:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUA-SAFE-AQUARIU...QQcmdZViewItem

Thank you

I have a similar aquasafe unit (I think they call it a Maximus) with 1 large DI and a 3 gal bladder tank. It's nice because it allows me to have 3 gal of water on demand without the need for a separate holding tank.

Is the unit any good or do you wish you spent more on a better unit?

don't waste your time and money on that cheap unit. you dont want the 100 gph ro membrane to start with, and they use cheap filters with a small side di chamber which is just complete junk. if you want it for drinking water, it may work out okay, but for reef keeping its junk.

You will not be happy with it. It is a passable drinking water filter but nowhere near the quality of the reef systems here on RC. With RO/DI you get what you pay for and e-bay type units just don't cut it.
You don't want little inefficient hollow tubes that are supposed DI filters. You don't want granular activated carbon. You don't want a 5 micron carbon block. You don't want a 5 micron prefilter. You don't want a 100 GPD membrane.

Now, you do want a true 10" vertical canister and refillable 20 oz cartridge type true DI filter. You do want a 0.5 micron solid matrix or chlorine guzzler type carbon block. You do want a 1.0 or better yet a 0.5 or 0.2 micron absolute rated prefilter. You do want a 75 GPD Dow Filmtec RO membrane.

You will also want a handheld TDS meter and an inline pressure gauge. You will probably need and autoshutoff valve and a RO bypass valve too.

Look at the people who sponsor this site and these forums and are all reef hobbyists themselves. They hand assemble their units using quality components one at a time here in the US not China or Taiwan.

funny...

2.5 years old. same membrane. Still 0 TDS. I have replaced the 3 prefilters with a sediment and 2 chlorine guzzlers from buckeye to the tune of about $25.

The housings are all standard size so you can replace any of the filters or membrane with other units if you wish. When the membrane on mine does go, I will get a 75GPD Filmtec instead of the 100.

For now 0 TDS is 0 TDS is 0TDS. don't let anyone tell you differently.
I am 100% happy.

sorry but the DI housing is not standard, its a cheap small housing that sits sideways, so you would need to change that out for sure. 100 gpd membrane, 90% rejection compared to 98 from a 75.so basically you will need to replace all the filters to get quality from the unit, so i guess you are 100% happy with the packaging. i have owned this unit before, i did get 0tds for a bit, but also had to change my filters quite often...why half a$$ your water quality, spend a little more and get QUALITY...

0 TDS is not 0 TDS.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=898154

Add up the cost of better filters, a true vertical DI canister and cartridge, a TDS meter, a pressure gauge, an autoshutoff valve, a RO bypass and in some cases an adjustable flow restrictor or flush valve that just about all the units I mentioned come with as standard equipment and its nt such a good deal after all. As I said before "You get what you pay for with RO/DI".

If you have never had a good RO/DI to compare it to you may not know the difference. Once you have experienced the difference you could kick yourself!

in the spectrapure forum nonetheless... Do you really think that any two successful tanks measure within less than .05 microseimens of each other? Whatever....
