Aiptasia control and fridmani's dottyback?
I had an issue with aiptasia and tried all the usual cures, Joes juice worked reasonably well but it was hard to get to some of these beasts. I had pretty much resigned myself to living to some extent with the occasional aiptasia. Then one day I noticed they had all disappeared. The only thing I did differently was to introduce a fridmani to my tank. Anyone else have a similar experience? If not why do you think they just disappeared?

I have two P. Fridmani in my tank for over 10 years and they never touched Aiptasia. I know they will fed on small bristleworms. You maybe lucky and have one that does fed on Aiptasia. Going off the main topic, have anyone ever use Joe Juice or Aiptasia Control and the Aiptasia would disappear for a week or two and then come back.

With joes you are only removing the visible aiptasia,

hungry peppermint shrimp ate them up in my last (massive) aiptasia outbreak. That said, I don't feed too heavily, so they had little choice. Sadly, once they ate them up, they did not want to eat anything else, and one by one, drifted off to the big reef in the ocean.

i just keep smothering the aiptasia with kalk paste and turn off the bigger pumps for some time so the paste can harden over them. eventually they use up all their energy trying to grow back and go away.

I have absolutely no aiptasia in my display, also have a fridmani. Maybe there is a connection. Don't have any peppermints in the display.
There were however hundreds of aiptasia in my overflow until the one peppermint shrimp that I had found its way in there, now none at all. Luckily it happily grabs up food that washes over now that the aiptasia is gone. |

I don't have any pepps, I had similar experience with Joes juice. The visible ones shriveled but sooner or later another would pop up somewhere.
Just an observation I wasn't sure there was any cause/effect but it was the only thing I did differently and after 2 years there is not one aiptasia to be found. |

What I have noticed, the ones that comes back are in the same location. They look like the same size as the one I had treated. But there are some that I have treated that never cames back.

I have a dwarf lion, so peppermint shrimp arent an option in my tank. I bought some pieces of rock off someone that had a few aptasia on them. I hadnt had any in my tank thus far and I was afraid they'd spread, but my blue spot puffer (Canthigaster solandri) ate it all. watched him pick through my rocks & polish off all the aptasia. took less than 2 days. Havent seen any since. It's been a month or so now. He doesnt touch my corals,. but seems to like aptasia.
