Finger Leather Dead?

For Christmas, I was given a large three-headed finger leather. After acclimating it, I went to put it in my tank. As soon as it was submerged, the current began to loose large mucus-like strands into the water.

Is that a stress thing, or is it dead?

Leather corals are known to do this. Do you have a pic? Based on your description I wouldn't worry. It should open in a couple of days.

After the stress of being moved leather corals will often shrink down and shed a thick mucous coating. It's perfectly normal. Good parameters and moderate flow to remove the mucous should be all that's needed for it to look better in a couple of days.

I thought that it was normal, but it's a large leather and didn't want it to nuke the tank.
