Considering a merge...

Hi all! I currently have two smaller aquariums, a 28g and a 46g. I am contemplating placing (most) of the contents of the 28g into the 46g and just getting rid of the 28. Any suggestions on how to do this properly? I would like to add the LR in the 28 into the 46. The 46 has only been up for a few months. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

you should have no problem transfering the livestock.

I'm not so much worried about the livestock. I am more concerned about the live rock. I have about 30 lbs in the 46g. I have about 20 lbs in the 28g. I'd like to put it all in the 46, but read something at some point about adding LR to an established tank (or removing rock).

You should have no issues - I've merged tanks before, and as long as both are disease-free with cured rock, I see no reason why things shouldn't go smoothly.

I mixed up extra SW ahead of time, and I'm glad I did. Moving a tank full of LR around makes a mess, and you may want to finish off the merge by performing a water change or even filtering with a diatom filter (this clears all the detritus very quickly).
