What is this stuff? (pic)

This rusty color stuff started growing around my tank and im not sure on what it is and what to do to get rid of it.
Any help is much appreciated it!

you refering to the purple or the brown?. the brown imo is cyno. and the purple is coraline. ? hope this helps

Cyno caused by excess nitrates phosphates, and not enough flow. Direct some that way and it wont be able to stick.

looks more like diatoms to me by the color and no air bubbles.

Cyano and diatoms can have air bubbles and be brown. However, I agree it looks more like diatoms, which tend to be more of a golder-brown dust.

Its cyano i just had my entire sand bed covered in this stuff... it would go away when the lights were off then would come back once the lights were on.... battling this stuff was HORRIBLE for me



It started off on the rocks like your pic above... I didnt think it was cyano because it was brown and not really "Matt like".

To get rid of it i encreased flow, installed 2 phosphate removers, ran new carbon and turned my display lights off for three days... Also did a huge water change.
